2023 RSM Classic: Betting Odds, Picks and a Prop for Sea Island Golf Club

So Brendon fits the bill on the basis that he lives in Watkinsville, Georgia. Hitting greens in great regularity, that makes Todd a huge danger with his putting prowess. Davis Thompson in this field across my 8-week Strokes Gained Current Form tracker ranks in the top 10 and he was a progressive 15th last time out in the Mexican desert at the WWT Championship.

The thing that really appeals to me with Thompson are his local links to Sea Island, and this stretch of coastline. Well worth a follow this week at backable each-way odds. Matt NeSmith 0. Matt NeSmith is finding his prowess again with his key skill which is ball-striking as ranks of 4th, 23rd and 5th across his last 3 tournaments highlight nicely.

Matthew must arrive at the RSM Classic in ever more confident spirits. As an amateur he finished 4th , 5th and 2nd at the Jones Cup played next door at Ocean Forest Golf Club. NeSmith playing for the University of South Carolina, finished 20th , 21st , 1st and 13th across his 4 outings. Impressive results and intimate course knowledge all rolled into one.

His RSM Classic resume is also excellent. Very much out of the limelight this time around and with a definite leaning to southern state Bermudagrass golf courses, where he undoubtedly putts his best, I could undoubtedly see NeSmith being in contention on the Atlantic coast. Robby Shelton 0. Never the most consistent, 59th at the WWT Championship a fortnight ago is the kind of form recent winners of this have actually entered with!

And he must be looking forward to his trip to Sea Island this week, on a course he has plenty of experience of as both an amateur and a professional. Plus at the Jones Cup played just up the coast at the Ocean Forest Golf Club he has finished 17th in and 22nd in That Seaside Course hole weekend scoring was behind only winner Adam Svensson and Brian Harman, and catapulted the talented 28 year-old from 60th to 10th.

With calm conditions in play post-Thursday, Robby could well play catch-up again this week on scoreable set-ups. Play Safe. From on Free bets expire after 30 days. First class in every way, the Seaside and Plantation courses are the competitive playgrounds this week. Competitors will play both during Rounds 1 and 2. The top 65 and ties play the weekend on the Seaside layout.

Both courses are short by PGA Tour standards. Plantation historically plays easier, with four par-5s and better protection from the elements. Seaside is a par design and as the name evokes, sits alongside the water. Far less protected from the wind, weather can play a huge role in determining the field scoring average. Consider the winning score of the RSM over the last 10 years is 19 under par; we have seen final scores of 14 under and as high as 22 under.

I walked both courses this week and have competed on each several times. Local knowledge does play a role, but familiarity with coastal Bermudagrass greens is by far the biggest skill needed to separate from the field. In the last 10 RSMs, winners have gained over five strokes on the field with their flatstick.

Both courses offer a plethora of birdie chances with so many short scorable par-4s and 5s. The player who has the best conversion rate will win. Getting to those birdie chances takes accuracy off the tee. Most players will exhibit a conservative game plan using less than driver. Sea Island ranks well below the Tour average in driving distance and well above in accuracy.

You will see a majority of the field play to the same landing zones all four days. From there, each guy will play aggressively at these hole locations. Wedges and scoring irons are all that is needed from that range. Rsm classic golf betting tips Then starts the putting contest. The field will score lower on the par Plantation layout.

In fact, through my research, four of the last five winners have played Plantation first and then Seaside the first two days. Down in the Golden Isles, we expect some weather to come Wednesday into Friday. If the forecast remains the same, players who catch the best weather on Plantation can really go deep.

Seaside can be brutal in the wind and rain. Temperatures will reach the mids all four days; Saturday and Sunday look much better than rounds one and two. I love being on property to handicap pressure-packed weeks. The final tournament of the year can bring major-championship anxiety for some.

Others have the weight of a world ranking or the comfort of sleeping in their own bed to contend with.
