Lines last updated Tuesday at p. Conners is a horse for course this week, finishing no worse than 12th in his last 4 starts here. In a loaded field last week, Cole finished 14th. Like Henley, Todd is a short, accurate driver of the golf ball. His track record is just OK here 21st, 48th, 41st, 21st but he should have some success in Honolulu this week as long as he can dial in his approach game.
Putnam finished 27th and 4th in the last 2 years here after also coming in 2nd back in This week is a good spot for him to build on his 40th-place finish last week at The Sentry. He finished 25th at The Sentry last week and came in 12th here a year ago, so he has the brief recent form and limited course history that make him a worthwhile bet.
Aberg is the most physically gifted player in the field and his driver can be a weapon on most courses, but his length and accuracy off the tee will also let him take less than driver and hit fairways. Theegala came in 48th here in his only start back in , but he comes into the week riding some momentum after a 2nd-place finish at The Sentry.

Waialae Country Club hosts the Sony Open in Hawaii once again this week and has been the host course of the event since Waialae is a par at 7,yards designed by Seth Raynor and renovated by Tom Doak which features a narrow layout with tree-lined fairways and Bermudagrass greens.
The primary way to win at this venue is with strong approach shots to get off the greens quickly. As is always my strategy for targeting first-round leaders, I'm searching for golfers who tee off earlier in the day. The first wave almost always scores better than the second wave, which makes sense considering that the greens only firm up as the day progresses, especially on a coastal course like Waialae.
The earlier you tee off, the more soft greens you face that are much more receptive to your shots. The one objection to this general rule of thumb is when there is an expected weather change between the first and second waves, but that will not be the case on Thursday. In fact, the wind is actually expected to dramatically pick up for the afternoon wave, going from miles per hour to miles per hour.
That will lend a significant advantage to the first wave on Thursday, which includes Tyrrell Hatton. Hatton is in the fourth of 24 groups to tee off, and with him being one of the strongest players in this field, he is a strong target to lead after the opening round. The fiery Englishman has the third-shortest outright odds this week and is an excellent approach player who also doesn't have a weakness in his game, so Waialae sets up nicely for Hatton.
If you include his appearances on the European Tour, Hatton has now gained True Strokes on approach in 12 of his past 15 tournaments. Sony open first round leader picks He boasts a remarkable nine top finishes over that stretch as well. Finally, he fares well on Bermudagrass, which is the putting surface this week. Hatton has gained True Strokes Putting in five of his past six tournaments contested on Bermudagrass greens, including his T3 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.
What I find particularly encouraging is that after his only previous start in The Sentry in , he followed up with a best ever finish in the Sony the following week, when 2 nd ; an event at which he opened with an 8-under 62 to sit 2 nd after the first round. The Canadian made an inauspicious start to his year by finishing 52 nd at The Sentry. He looked in good shape towards the end of last season and it was noticeable how quickly he started in some of those closing events, with an opening 65 enough to see him sit 6 th after round one of the Shriners; one better than the score he shot to sit 2 nd after the opening round of the Phoenix Open earlier in the year.
He has shot a round of 62 in each of those editions and we can take encouragement from the fact that his best start in this event - when opening with a 66 in the first round - came following a tune-up at The Sentry. He made his first start in this event in , where he finished 12 th and returned last year to finish 2 nd.
In both performances he has gained strokes on the greens — a positive for a player who occasionally looks lost with the flat stick. Golf In-Play Betting. Ante Post Markets.
